Student Reviews

"I loved A Girl's World's online Babysitting Course. It was a great source of babysitting basics, emergency tips, and other references (books,tapes,etc.). I would recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent class on babysitting. It was also very handy to be able to stop the class and come back to it at a different time. The quizzes were also very helpful. I also loved all the extra stuff that came with the Certificate like the flyers. They are very good advertising. The people that sent me stuff and e-mailed me stuff (customer service) were very friendly. And all of the above for a very reasonable price! I would DEFINITELY recommend it to ANYONE!!!! Thanks A Girl's World!"

Continuing Education

An online class cannot cover hands-on topics such as emergency first aid and CPR. We recommend that students continue their education by supplementing this course with a Basic First Aid and pediatric CPR class.

  Junior/Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Safety Award

Juniors: to complete this award, choose eight activities from the list below. There are links to special pages within our class and on the Internet that your troop will find helpful in completing these activities.

1) Use the Safety and Security Checklist in Class One, Planning Prevents Problems, to inspect your meeting place for safety hazards. Discuss simple changes you can make to create a meeting place that is as safe as possible.

2) What would you do if you had to call 911? Role-play what you would say and do to report an emergency in your home or meeting place. Here are emergency numbers in other countries as well.

3) What is a real emergency? How do you know when and how to call Emergency Medical Services? Take this cool quiz at
Emergency Medical Services to practice your emergency management skills.

4) Review the "Safe Exits" portion of our Safety and Security Class. Identify the safe exits in your meeting place. Conduct a practice emergency evacuation drill.

5) Check out one or more of these websites to find out how to deal with a cut, burn and sprain. Then practice giving first aid for these three most common injuries while babysitting.

Kids Health: How to Deal with Everyday Illnesses
http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/ill_injure/

Rescue 411, a first aid site developed by students for ThinkQuest.

Mayo Clinic: First Aid. Includes info on cuts, burns, and sprains, as well as bites and stings.

6) Review preventing and dealing with choking injuries. Look around your meeting place for possible choking hazards. Remove them. Then practice treating a child who is choking.

7) Babysitting a child with a pool or in a pool setting has special hazards. Review the water safety portion of Safety and Security. Then practice giving a reaching assist to someone in the water from the deck of a pool, a dock, or the shoreline.

8 ) In "Safety and Security", review what to do with your charges if a storm blew in or a natural disaster such as an earthquake happened in your area.

9 ) What kind of activities are good for Babysitting during rainy, wintry days? Review what kind of weather signs will tell when you should go indoors (types of clouds, wind shift, thunder, etc.)

10) Check out the safety features of your local playground. Do the playground safety check to ensure that it's safe for your charges to play there while you Babysit.

11) Use the Supervision and Structure checklist to determine appropriate activities for a young child. Review your Safety and Security checklist to create one "safe room" for a babysitting experience.

12) Review "Stranger Danger". Then roleplay what you and your friends would do
if you are approached by a stranger in a public place.

13) Children often fight. Review "Childcare and Discipline." Roleplay how you would help two disagreeing children to resolve a problem.

When you've completed eight activities, you can wear the Junior Girl Scout Safety Award on your uniform vest or sash in the place indicated on these diagram pages on the GSUSA website.

Please note that Babysittingclass.com will not send any badge awards you may earn to you. These should be ordered through your own local Council store when you complete the requirements for each one. If your local Council store does not have this award in stock, call 1-800-221-6707 to place an order with the National Store.

When you complete the Babysitting Classes and pass the final exam, we will send you our Babysitting Busines Kit which includes a Certificate of Completion, wallet card, sample flyers and coupons, and sample checklists.

Attn: Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders. Passes to our course are good for a whole year after registration. That should give Girl Scouts ample time to finish the requirements for their Badges and/or Interest Projects and take the final test to earn their certificate. During that year, Girl Scouts and Leaders are invited to use our "Live Help" and Babysitting Encyclopedia features. If you have any questions about our course or materials, please feel free to contact us.
