Student Reviews

"I loved A Girl's World's online Babysitting Course. It was a great source of babysitting basics, emergency tips, and other references (books,tapes,etc.). I would recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent class on babysitting. It was also very handy to be able to stop the class and come back to it at a different time. The quizzes were also very helpful. I also loved all the extra stuff that came with the Certificate like the flyers. They are very good advertising. The people that sent me stuff and e-mailed me stuff (customer service) were very friendly. And all of the above for a very reasonable price! I would DEFINITELY recommend it to ANYONE!!!! Thanks A Girl's World!"

Continuing Education

An online class cannot cover hands-on topics such as emergency first aid and CPR. We recommend that students continue their education by supplementing this course with a Basic First Aid and pediatric CPR class.

  Junior/Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Safety Award

Seniors: to complete this award, choose three activities from the list below. There are links to special pages within our class and on the Internet that your troop will find helpful in completing these activities.

1) Take a babysitting course, such as our online class at Babysittingclass.com

2) Look over the Safety and Security check list, Client Contact and Basic Emergency Information sheet and Supervision and Structure checklist. Now make a list of all of your safety responsibilities when you perform your duties as a babysitter. Do you know who to call in an emergency and where? Make a card to carry with you as a reminder of these responsibilities. Describe how you carried out your responsibilities at a Babysitting job.

3)
Do the Safety and Security check list with a potential babysitting client. Create a safety plan for that family.. Look for all types of hazards-electrical, mechanical, chemical, physical-and determine how you can make this home as safe for the children you are babysitting as possible. For example, test smoke alarms and change their batteries. Prepare a safe room as discussed in Planning Prevents Problems. Then
review the "Safe Exits" portion of our Safety and Security Class. Identify the safe exits in your meeting place. Conduct a practice emergency evacuation drill.

4) Hold a conference or forum on babysitting safety. You could go to a PTA or parents group. Use the Safety and Security class as a springboard to safety issues to discuss. Create a personal responsibility statement for yourself and your behavior as a safe, smart babysitter.

5) Fill out the Supervision and Structure checklist with a child you currently babysit, or a potential client. Use the checklist to pick a sport or outdoor activity that a child you babysit really enjoys. Analyze all the risks involved in participating in that activity. Find out how rules, training, and safety equipment are designed for player protection during this activity. Give a report to your group. Discuss with your group what elements of risk you found. Examine why people like to participate in activities that contain an element of risk? Can you discover why some children seek out risky activities and others fear them?

6) Babysitting a child with a pool or in a pool setting has special hazards. Review the water safety portion of Safety and Security. Then plan and conduct a lesson for younger children that you babysit on how to be safe around pools and bodies of water. Demonstrate the use of personal flotation devices (PFDs) and reaching assists and how to call for help in an emergency.

When you've completed three activities, you can wear the Senior Girl Scout Safety Award on your uniform vest or sash in the place indicated on these diagram pages on the GSUSA website.

Please note that Babysittingclass.com will not send any badge awards you may earn to you. These should be ordered through your own local Council store when you complete the requirements for each one. If your local Council store does not have this award in stock, call 1-800-221-6707 to place an order with the National Store.
